How to implement SOLAR HEATERS in Architectural Projects?

Would you like to implement solar heaters in your Projects? Here we’ll explain to you how to do it!

Índice

Solar heaters are one more way to be energy efficient at home and save money, in this article we explain how they work and all their benefits.

    solar heaters

Today we will discuss in Arquinétpolis we will address solar energy but in another of its facets, solar heaters. A solar heater is a device that uses the sun’s rays (solar energy) to convert it into thermal energy and thus be able to heat water that we can use at home in different activities (shower, laundry, etc). It is important to separate the technology of solar panels from that of solar heaters since many people confuse these technologies and think it is the same.

    Description

A solar heater consists mainly of 3 parts:

    • The solar collector or thermo-solar panel. This panel is usually painted black to prevent the reflection of light and achieve greater heat absorption and is responsible for capturing the sun’s rays and transferring it to the water.
    • Water container or storage. It is the container where the water is stored and connected to the inlet and outlet of the pipe, the energy captured in the collector is stored in the form of hot water and when water is required, it is extracted from the container and filled with water. cold water, the tank is thermally insulated to avoid heat loss and keep the hot water as long as possible.
    • Work system. Are all the pipes, pumps, stopcocks and accessories needed by the solar heater in the home installation.

    Functioning

The mode of operation of a solar heater is as follows: The solar heater must be installed in an area of the roof of the house where it can directly receive the sun’s rays as long as possible. The internal system of the heater is composed of a series of pipes through which the water circulates through an effect called «thermosyphonic» which causes the temperature difference between cold water and hot water, hot water rises faster and in a natural way where in the end it is deposited in storage.

The water is transported from the storage to the hydraulic installation of the house by means of pipes so that they can reach the furniture depending on the use that is required (sink, shower, laundry).

    Water use

The water used for the solar heater is fully potable water and can be used for personal hygiene and housework, if we live in a place with times of high heat and sun in the year we will have much greater availability of hot water, however Before installing a solar heating system we must make an analysis of our daily hot water consumption in order to choose the solar water heater with the ideal water storage that satisfies our hot water requirements.

    Benefits

The benefits that a solar heater can bring to our home are many, because with a solar heating system that meets our needs we can satisfy all our hot water needs in the house without having to buy or pay for fuel, although the cost of a system solar heating is more expensive than a boiler or conventional boiler should remember that the implementation of any ecotechnology is an investment and that we recover the cost of the cost of the solar heater when you stop buying gas to heat the water.

The amount of money saved and the term to amortize that investment will depend on the economic situation of each country as well as the gas rate. The environmental benefit that we generate by having a solar heater is to stop consuming LP gas which helps to slow down the deterioration of air quality as well as the emission of greenhouse gases that has serious repercussions worldwide.

    Cost and maintenance

The solar heater does not need much maintenance, but you have to be alert to the surface of the solar collector and ensure that it is free of obstacles that prevent it from capturing the sun’s rays effectively as leaves or branches for example. Another point where we must pay attention is in the pipe system and be aware of not having leaks or water losses, the useful life of the solar heater is calculated in approximately 15 or 20 years, which is why it is a totally profitable system.

The price of the solar heater varies depending on the storage capacity we need, but a 95-liter storage solar heater costs approximately $ 300 (approximately 210 euros). Depending on the gas rate of the country where you are located, you can do the calculation to know the approximate time in which you will recover your investment, in Mexico the amortization time of this system is between 15 or 18 months approximately, so this system it is quite profitable and in the short term the investment is recovered.

In the next post we will continue this journey through eco-techniques and will touch the turn of compost and its benefits for our homes.
